News & Notices
The Village of Bergen is proud to announce future plans to move the Village offices to the Tulley Building
In August 2006, the Village of Bergen purchased the Tulley Building, future home of the Village offices. This building, listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places, is located at 11 South Lake Avenue, the northwest corner of Lake Avenue and Buffalo Street.
The restoration of the Tulley building will help to revitalize our downtown area and has been supported by many including Senator Mary Lou Rath and Assemblyman Steve Hawley. Both the Senator and Assemblyman have helped the Village get started financially with the restoration and Assemblyman Hawley attended the pre-open house in May 2008 to show his support for the project.
In the Fall of 2007, the Village and Town began discussing a joint venture to relocate not only the Village offices to the Tulley building but to move either the Town offices or the Byron-Bergen public library to the Tulley building. It was determined after preliminary research, financial analysis, community input and collaboration by both governmental agencies, that the Tulley building would best meet the needs for the Town offices and the Court facilities.
In January 2008, a public information meeting was held about the future plans for the Tulley Building, which was attended by over 75 community residents. Presentations were given by both the Village and Town that included an overview of the project with time for any questions to be addressed. After the question and answer portion of the presentation was concluded an informal vote was taken for those who attended. With questions answered, the response was overwhelmingly positive with 90% of attendees in favor of moving the Town offices and Court facilities to the Tulley Building to join the Village offices.
In November 2008, the Town Board will present a finalized proposal to the voters at the general election. You will be asked to either accept or reject the proposition. Take a minute and stop by the Tulley building to view the proposed layout and plans, which are located in the front window of the building.
The Village of Bergen is asking for your support of this joint venture by voting yes to the proposition in November.
Thank you for supporting the Tulley Building project!
